My role in poverty...
Reflection Posted : 2017-06-26
A tweet by Pope Francis about poverty, especially different and new forms of poverty forced me to stop and reflect on poverty, and my role in it.
Easter 2017
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-16
Alleluia, Alleluia, He is risen!
Triduum 2017 : Holy Saturday
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-15
Love is a word that gets used a lot in modern society. We see it and hear it all around us. It is used as a synonym for feelings like: appreciate, admire, desire, greed, lust, and envy to name a few... but love is something else.
Triduum 2017 : Friday, the Passion of the Lord
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-14
And bearing the cross for himself, He went forth to the place called the Skull, in Hebrew, Golgotha

Many are the blessings to celebrate the Lord right away!
Lent 2017 : Day 41
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-11
Will you lay down your life for me?
Lent 2017 : Day 40
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-10
We are enlightened by the many teachings about God and the countless showers of His love and blessings upon us. For us who are saved by Him, all we could ever want is to live in His kingdom all our days, and to marvel at His goodness.
Lent 2017 : Day 39 : Palm Sunday
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-09
“Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest.”
Lent 2017 : Day 38
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-08
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
Lent 2017 : Day 37
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-07
Humanity is caught up in a violent and suffering world. Without faith, our fears and experiences can harden or numb our hearts. The Pharisees in today’s gospel reveal themselves as people without faith.
Lent 2017 : Day 36
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-06
Christ is always challenging us to accept the truth, always reminding us that He is The Word manifest, that He is truth.
Lent 2017 : Day 35
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-05
They surrendered completely and put their trust in the Lord. God then sent an angel to protect them from harm, leaving Nebuchadnezzar in awe as he marveled at the miracle and blessed the Lord.
Lent 2017 : Day 34
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-04
When the troubles of the world weigh heavily on our hearts and minds, we need to remind ourselves that God has not abandoned us.
Lent 2017 : Day 33
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-03
The readings today teach us about justice and compassion. These are two virtues that are very difficult to live by in this world, where success seems to be the only thing that matters.
Lent 2017 : Day 32
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-02
Like the promise of sunrise after darkness, God is true and faithful in all that He says and does. He keeps his words and He never fails.
Lent 2017 : Day 31
Reflection Posted : 2017-04-01
The Pharisees who are set in the laws, pride themselves as the scholars and experts of the scriptures. They look down on people who are ignorant to the law yet they never taught nor shared their knowledge with them.
Lent 2017 : Day 30
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-31
I grew up having a closer relationship with my mother than with my father. Throughout my childhood and adolescent years, my father was abroad, working to provide for us. It didn’t help that he was the silent type, was not affectionate, and had a quick temper.
Lent 2017 : Day 29
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-30
There is no question about Jesus’ stand in our lives. We all believe in him – that’s why we are who we call ourselves to be, Christians.
Lent 2017 : Day 28
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-29
The re-assurance and the promises of salvation in today’s readings give us a sense of relief in knowing that God, our Father, will never abandon us.
Lent 2017 : Day 27
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-28
During our darkest hour, we feel helpless and hopeless. There are times when problems are too overwhelming that we feel trapped and alone, as if no one in the world can help us, not even family, friends, colleagues, or significant others.
Lent 2017 : Day 26
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-27
The teachings of Christ are unquestionably righteous and good, which I took to my heart, but I found it difficult in truly accepting the concept of a God and His plan of salvation for the human race.
Lent 2017 : Day 25
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-26
As we move deeper into Lent, and Holy Week is coming into sight it is important to keep in mind what we have accomplished this Lenten season. How far our own journey has taken us.
Lent 2017 : Day 24
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-25
To have a faith as bold as Mary’s is the ultimate goal, and her unconditional trust in God is something that all of us should aspire to.
Lent 2017 : Day 23
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-24
Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for you have stumbled because of your iniquity.
Lent 2017 : Day 22
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-23
We are well into Lent and I am listening. Am I with Jesus? Am I doing as Jesus did? Honestly?
Lent 2017 : Day 21
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-22
Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
Lent 2017 : Day 20
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-21
God is our only leader, our Messiah, and we should listen only to Him. In Isaiah 1:10, God reminds us to seek Him and listen to Him especially when the world is not right.
Lent 2017 : Day 19
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-20
For someone to have so many designations and a couple of feast days, we really do not have much information about St. Joseph.
Lent 2017 : Day 18
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-19
O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
Lent 2017 : Day 17
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-18
“‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”
Lent 2017 : Day 16
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-17
When we feel difficult emotions creeping into our hearts, we have a choice to make. What we decide is what makes them sources of sin or of grace. There is hope and help when we open our hearts to God and neighbour.
Lent 2017 : Day 15
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-16
It is not the messenger but the listener that brings about transformation.
Lent 2017 : Day 14
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-15
Lent is an opportunity to shine before God with our fruits of service.
Lent 2017 : Day 13
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-14
Are you trusting completely in the Lord or are you abandoning the love that He freely gives?
Lent 2017 : Day 12
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-13
As hard as it may seem, God proves to us all that unrelenting love is absolutely possible and absolutely beautiful as well. When we may stray from God, He never gives up on us, but continues to love and fight for us.
Lent 2017 : Day 11
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-12
We are never alone when we have faith in God.
Lent 2017 : Day 10
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-11
One of my long-time favourite movies, The Princess Bride, shows the Spaniard Inigo, devoting his whole life to avenging the murder of his father by the Six-Fingered Man. It is easy to identify with his valiant quest. Humour masks the truth that his heart is hardened by hatred that becomes despair which is dulled only by drunkenness. Does Inigo live in peace after he kills the Six- Fingered Man?
Lent 2017 : Day 9
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-10
With great power comes great responsibility
Lent 2017 : Day 8
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-09
Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
Lent 2017 : Day 7
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-08
"Old habits die hard." That saying reminds me of how difficult it is to change our ways and our views
Lent 2017 : Day 6
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-07
Each day that the Lord has made is great, with each moment a blessing for His people on earth. On the sixth day of Lent, we are blessed with a beautiful and uplifting message that speaks of God’s unwavering mercy, grace and love for us.
Lent 2017 : Day 5
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-06
Before the law comes love. This is the same pattern we see in healthy families. Parents love their children as infants before they begin to teach them right from wrong. The love isn’t earned or deserved by the child. The rules parents begin to model and then teach their children are for their good as well as for the good of the family and society.
Lent 2017 : Day 4
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-05
Temptation exists in many forms, it is not always as simple to identify as “forbidden fruit,” something we all of a sudden want because we shouldn’t / aren’t supposed to have it. Temptation is always most powerful when we can justify succumbing to it, and it is sometimes difficult to see temptation for what it is, not necessarily and answer to a need, but rather an attempt to divide us from our calling as disciples.
Lent 2017 : Day 3
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-04
I was awed at how beautiful and powerful David’s prayer was and how it shows us how a humble servant with complete faith in God should pray.
Lent 2017 : Day 2
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-03
Do I take God for granted? How easy is it for me to fall into apathy to sin?
Lent 2017 : Day 1
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-02
In Deuteronomy it says "If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I am commanding you today, by loving the Lord your God and walking in his ways, and observing his commandments, decrees and ordinances then you shall live and be numerous..."
Lent 2017 : Ash Wednesday
Reflection Posted : 2017-03-01
The act of giving something up, of doing more charitable works, of reflecting on God’s words through the bible aren’t meant to be daunting or tedious. How often as a child I entered into Lent “distraught” over the thought of not having chocolates or junk food, or so many other “simple” self-denials that would last for forty days. How long those forty days seemed.

Forgive & Love Infinitely
Reflection Posted : 2016-12-04
We are called to forgive and love infinitely, not because we are good, but because God is good, and He offers us infinite mercy, forgiveness and love, and expects us to do the same with our brothers and sisters.
What’s Keeping You Busy?
Reflection Posted : 2016-11-14
In the middle of a busy city, there was a young man who was shouting at the crowd, saying, “Everyone, look! I have the most beautiful heart in the world! It is perfect and flawless!”
Inclusive Love
Reflection Posted : 2016-10-30
In 2013, Pope Francis made a firm stand that shook some conservative Catholics proclaiming a highly inclusive statement that all of us are redeemed through Jesus Christ – Catholic and non-Catholic, religious and atheists.
Do not Lose Heart
Reflection Posted : 2016-10-15
“You don’t have to do this, son,” the father said. “Yes, I do,” the persistent athlete replied. “Then I will be with you in this race until we cross the finish line.”
An Everlasting ROI (Return on Investment)
Reflection Posted : 2016-09-25
As disciples of Christ, we are invited to express compassion to our neighbor, as the Lord is compassionate to us.
Surprise Prayer
Reflection Posted : 2016-09-12
Recently a friend of mine had a serious accident and ended up in the hospital, requiring assistance and medical support for some time afterward to recuperate. As any Christian in time of distress does, my friend reached out to God in prayer, and in turn also reached out for prayers from friends and family to help through this difficult time.
True Humility
Reflection Posted : 2016-08-31
A famous Christian missionary in the 19th century was once asked after he travelled around the world, “Are you not concerned of your safety, you are given so much glory and honour?”
Go for Gold!
Reflection Posted : 2016-08-19
As Christians we are like Olympic athletes who work to earn the gold medal, but there is only one medal, one judgment day, one salvation and it is not for everyone. We either get the gold or not at all.
Division that Leads to Peace
Reflection Posted : 2016-08-14
“Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.” [Luke 12:51]
A Believer by Label or Action?
Reflection Posted : 2016-08-07
Action, vigilance, and courage sound dramatic, but they’re the basic requirements of a disciple, and the byproducts of faith.
Think of what is above, not of what is on earth.
Reflection Posted : 2016-07-30
Jesus does not fault the rich man for being hard working and business-minded, but for his greed.
Universal Love
Reflection Posted : 2016-07-14
In the beginning of the gospel of Luke, Jesus reminds us of the greatest commandment that is to love God with all your heart, being, strength and mind. But he did not stop there; following right after it is, to love your neighbour as yourself. Love for God and neighbour is the key quality of a disciple of Christ.
Peace is Not Imposed
Reflection Posted : 2016-07-04
“The harvest is abundant but the labourers are few.” The need that the world faced centuries ago is the same need that we are facing today. In the gospel of Luke, Jesus saw this need that is not physical but spiritual. There was – and still is – spiritual hunger, instability within oneself, or war between the mind and the heart. Hence, Jesus responded by sending out his followers to a mission of peace in preparation for the fulfillment of God’s grand plan.
Making a Radical Choice
Reflection Posted : 2016-06-25
“If you were on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?” This question struck me seeing it from a huge billboard along the city’s main road. Amidst a busy day, it got me thinking how I am as a follower of Jesus. Could someone, who does not know me personally, tell that I am Christian?
How Do You Quench Your Thirst?
Reflection Posted : 2016-06-19
We are defined by how we live our lives like Christ, not in what we say we believe in.
What's Your Worth
Reflection Posted : 2016-06-11
The readings this Sunday guide us to obtain God’s grace in forgiveness. We are invited to humble ourselves before God, and to abandon all that we have in great love.
Trusting in the Ways of a Healer
Reflection Posted : 2016-06-05
I will praise you Lord, for you have rescued me.
We can make miracles happen
Reflection Posted : 2016-05-29
Love transforms all things, and through God’s endless love we can perform miraculous acts of love every day, but to do so we need to be nourished by God Himself.
God’s secret is revealed!
Reflection Posted : 2016-05-21
Making the Sign of the Cross is not an unusual gesture for us Catholics. It has become a habit most especially when we are in a state of reverence and sacredness. But do we really understand what it means to invoke God in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?
Power in Stillness
Reflection Posted : 2016-05-13
When we stop relying on ourselves to solve our problems and turn to God, the Holy Spirit is our gentle advisor that comes to guide us and lead us forward.
Nothing can separate us from God’s love except ourselves...
Reflection Posted : 2016-04-15
The experience of Paul and Barnabas reminds us of God’s relentlessness in coming to meet us where we are at the moment. As we are His creation, He wants to communicate His divinity to our human capacity through the people we meet, the events that happen in our lives, the role that we play in our families or communities, and in every form that we can possibly comprehend.
Lent 2016 : Day 40
Reflection Posted : 2016-03-20

Lent 2016 : Day 34

Lent 2016 : Day 33
Reflection Posted : 2016-03-13
In order to listen to the voice of God, we must have faith, we need to believe that God is speaking to us.
Lent 2016 : Day 32
Reflection Posted : 2016-03-12
God enters our lives in many ways, some subtle, some pronounced, but always in ways He knows we need, not necessarily want.

Take refuge in the Lord for He is merciful and loving beyond measure!
Lent 2016 : Day 30
Reflection Posted : 2016-03-10
When Moses was exiled from Egypt, he spent 40 days in the desert. His time of adversity was a time of purification and preparation for his mission. Our times of adversity can be time to grow closer to God if we look at them with hearts of faith.
